Big Blow Dealt to Santa Clarita Mega-Project
The Newhall Ranch project in the Santa Clarita Valley area of Los Angeles County was dealt a major setback by the California Supreme Court which rejected the sufficiency of its environmental impact report. The court held that the EIR did not provide enough information on greenhouse gas emissions and did not provide for adequate protection for the endangered unarmored threespine stickleback. The ruling is likely to push the timeline for the 19 square mile, 20,000 unit project back by at least a couple of years.
